I tested out some Zelda games, which were on their "HDTV" display. As you're playing games on a TV-sized device, it felt little jarring to not have the control of both d-pad and gamepad. But if you want Nintendo to sell a Switch as much possible, and make it look feel like a premium console, they might as well have it. The Switch also has a touchscreen for playing side-scrollers like the Mario Kart 8 demo, which is a nice addition.
At first it may seem like the new Switch just looks and feels different from the old one, but I'm hoping that's just an aesthetic change.
